PALS (Perimeter Adult Learning & Services), formed in 1991 and supported by local religious institutions as well as local non-profits and merchants, begins its 26th year of stimulating educational classes for senior adults. The Winter 2018 session, which is being held at the Dunwoody United Methodist Church, begins on January 8 - March 5, No class January 15, Martin Luther King Day. The classes are offered in three time slots, 10:00-11:00, 11:15-12:15, and 1:00-2:00. The cost is $45 for the entire session or $8 for a single day. Lunch can be purchased for $8.00 with advance reservations or can be brought from home.
Classes for this Winter session include THE BLACK EXPERIENCE, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY, INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION, MAH JONGG, ELLIS ISLAND AND THE HISTORY OF IMMIGRATION, SHAKESPEARE'S HENRY V, HAMILTON vs MADISON, GREAT DECISIONS, OPEN BRIDGE FOR EXPERIENCED PLAYERS. Past classes, many of which are repeated every few years because of their popularity, have included estate and financial planning, home repairs, gardening, area museums, the Presidents, music and art appreciation, travelogues and the annual Great Decisions forum. Most speakers are retired professionals who speak on their area of expertise, with many having a strong following from year to year. The Program Committee is always interested in hearing from participants about other topics of interest and future speakers.
